Design Projects

I created these stacking stones for a class that asked students to design and create a toy out of wood. I chose to make organically shaped stacking stones so that they could be placed in creative orientations, rather than a fixed position. The stones were created with the notion that they can be used as a creative challenge for all ages, whether they are used by younger kids to develop motor skills, or adults as a relaxing fidget.

The stones are made from butternut wood and stained with tung oil. The began as a wooden plank that I jointed together to create larger pieces. From there, the wooden pieces were cut and sanded down to create the stone-like shape.

I created this  for a class that assigned each student to design a wearable cardboard piece that reflects a word that we picked at random. The word that I was assigned to was ‘refinement’. In efforts to create a design that reflected this word, I aimed to create a piece that shows the process of cluttered to refined. Each panel takes the elements from the prior and turns them into a more refined section, highlighting the continuous process.
